Britney Is Back!

There have been a ton of failed celebrity comebacks in the past few years, some a little worse than others.  Chris Brown is making a valiant attempt but it’s hard to come back after beating up a true star.  And I thought Lindsay Lohan was going to announce a movie this year (probably on Lifetime though), but I haven’t seen her around much lately, not her original face at least.  But the true success story that has blown everyone away is Britney Spears, the greatest pop icon this generation will ever see.  I think those in the music scene and the blogosphere are well aware of her incredible talent and how much credit she deserves. She’s a hit maker!!!  But the main-stream media doesn’t always give Britney enough respect.

I remember the first sleepover my friends and I had after Baby One More Time was released and we must have played the song over at least 30 times, screaming the lyrics every round.  Those were the songs that many girls grew up with and we looked up to Britney as a guide for how to be cool and popular.  After the video for Sometimes came out, every girl in my school was wearing crop tops to the movie theater and my friends and I would even exchange our pairs of baggy cargo pants so we could wear them in every color.  And the I’m A Slave For You video made us all think we could dance and the after school get togethers turned into hip hop routines and fashion shows.
When Britney’s social image took a turn for the worse it was so hard to watch.  I felt like that sort of thing should never have to happen but I guess that’s what the pressure of the celebrity world is like.  Most people just criticized and gave up on her because she was just another of many celebrities to bite the dust and fall prey to pressure and addiction.  In my heart I truly didn’t believe that would be the end of the one and only Britney Spears.  She had just been hitting a turning point with her music and there were new paths to be followed and doubts to overcome.  And I was right!  Femme Fatal has been her most successful album thus far and has boosted her beyond pop icon to music genius and well-respected artist.  More than just teenage girls find her music catchy and dance worthy.  And these new videos are so artsy and expressive!  Til The World Ends is my new favorite song and video because I get to see some of the old dance moves that I love so much combined with a new beat that is so Britney.  I hope everyone is enjoying her comeback and I know there’s so much more to come!
